Who doesn't love oregano in your favorite Italian dish? I know I do but did you know that it can also be good for your health?
There are different kinds of oregano oil so make sure you are using a wild oregano suitable for ingestion. The essential oregano oil is not the same.
I have such good friends and recently, I received wild oregano oil to use. I'm so excited. Is it weird that I'm excited over an herbal oil? I just see all the health benefits and I'm all over it!
Bacteria
We have heard how there are so many antibiotic resistant bacteria and how antibiotics kill all bacteria, good and bad. Oregano oil is shown to act like an antibiotic without killing good bacteria. I have read that the one product you would want above all others, for medicinal purposes, would be oregano oil. Taking oregano supplements or oil of oregano tincture is very beneficial. Rubbing the oil(with a carrier oil) on your skin has been shown to kill Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
Antioxidant
Wild oregano oil is a powerful antioxidant. It can reduce free radicals in your body. Free radicals can damage our DNA or even cause cell death.
Oxidative stress and free radicals have been found to play a part in arthritis and cancers.
Promising research is being done on daily dosages to combat these diseases.
Inflammation
Oregano contains carvacrol, a powerful anti inflammatory compound.
Research is being done for safe dosages and the future looks bright.
Summary
Looks like oregano oil is going to be a big part of our daily routine soon for many reasons. These are just a few but if you do a little research, you will see that this little herb has BIG benefits. Personally, I am taking two drops under my tongue as part of my morning routine. I am passionate about increasing my immunity for a healthier, longer and more productive life. I most definitely will continue to use it in my cooking as well. After all, you are what you eat.
As always, check with your doctor if you are taking any medications as the oil may interfere with its effectiveness.
